About the Artist

A lifetime resident of Pittsburgh, Nicholas Kratofil has been both artist and teacher of sculpture for over forty years.  His striking style developed as he taught clay sculpture, stone carving and oil portraiture at various colleges, universities and art galleries.  Many of Nicholas’s sculptures and paintings can be seen throughout Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.

Nicolas began his education at The Tyler School of Fine Arts at Temple University earning the roll of an apprentice sculptor to the Master Rodinian sculptor and school founder, Dr. Boris Blai.

Nicholas continued his art education at Carnegie Institute of Technology (Carnegie-Mellon University) and went on to become the Chief Medical Illustrator of operations and surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Nicholas now resides on the South Side where he grew up.  Nick and his wife Nancy have opened Nicholas K. Studios, an urban art studio in a historic renovated fire station on the corner of 9th and Bingham Street to sell and showcase his art.
